The Challenge
Responsible firearm storage has long forced owners to choose between security and accessibility — traditional safes are secure but slow to open, while quick-access solutions often sacrifice meaningful protection. The Gunbox 2.0 needed to solve both sides of that equation: delivering rapid, hands-free access via biometrics and RFID while meeting the structural and tamper-resistance standards expected of a premium safe — all in a package with consumer-grade aesthetics.
Our Solution
As Lead Mechanical Design Engineer, I drove the mechanical architecture of the Gunbox 2.0, integrating biometric fingerprint and RFID access systems into a rugged, precision-manufactured enclosure. The design required close cross-functional collaboration with industrial design, electronics, and manufacturing teams to reconcile premium fit and finish with the tolerances demanded by security hardware. My work focused on structural integrity, access mechanism reliability, and designing for high-volume manufacturability — ensuring consistent performance across consumer deployments.
The Results
The Gunbox 2.0 launched as one of the most sophisticated consumer biometric safes on the market, earning recognition for its combination of rapid access technology and premium build quality. The product established The Gunbox as a leading brand in the smart safe category and helped shift industry expectations around what responsible, tech-enabled firearm storage could look like.
